Hani is the studio art director at Ubisoft Abu Dhabi with more than 17 years of experience in developing AAA games in North America and recently in the Middle East. Hani is responsible for developing the look and feel of the mobile games at the Abu Dhabi studio which includes crafting new experiences and maintaining the brand identities of the games to produce visuals on multiple platforms. Prior to joining Ubisoft in 2014, Hani held several senior art director positions in Canada, developing game titles for Activision, Square Enix and Universal Studios where he led art teams during the development of multiple titles which includes Sleeping Dogs, Hulk, Scarface and NCIS. Hani has a Bachelor degree in Architecture and a diploma in 3d Animation from Vancouver Film School.
Art directing mobile and console games
Console and mobile games have different development practices. The persona of player, the visual/technical limitations as well as the budgets drive the setup of teams and pipelines. In this talk, we will explore the differences, commonalities and the opportunities for improvement. The focus will be on art direction and production practices but will also touch on other disciplines.
The performance of a game is more than the responsibility of programmers - all developers should be given the tools to measure and minimise the impact of their own additions.
